President in Quintana Roo of the National Union of Vegetable Producers Unaproh, Eulogio Chan Tuz, reported that a total of 80 women vegetable producers from this municipality met last weekend to define strategies and manage before the State Government and the City Council, the strengthening and expansion of the permaculture program.
Chan Tuz reminded that the objective of the permaculture program is to achieve food sustainability among the residents of the communities of this municipality, producing healthy food, not contaminated with chemical processes, as happens in most of basic products currently consumed.
In this topic, he highlighted that the COVID-19 pandemic forced families to take refuge in their homes and this led many women to produce all kind of food in their yards for their own consumption.
In that very same way, to generate economic resources to support their families in the face of this difficult situation caused by COVID-19.
Chan Tuz added that present women signed a document in this meeting requesting the support of the Government of Quintana Roo and the City Council, to contribute to an action in favor to develope and strengthen the permaculture program and to provide them with material for the orchards and seeds, since it´s difficult for them to carry out this practice during the health contingency.
